The overnight trips give clock times: the budget liveaboard schedules the climb at 5:30 am after a 5 am wake-up, with breakfast on board afterwards.
The hike itself
The listings call it a hike to the summit or the viewpoint, and one says it involves trekking up a hill. A 3-day sailing trip says there is a lower viewpoint for anyone not doing the full climb and that the view from there is still the classic one; we found that nowhere else, so ask your operator whether it applies on your boat. The listings tell you to bring comfortable or hiking shoes, a hat and sunscreen. The tour called Komodo Island: Komodo Dragons & Islands Day Tour asks for moderate physical fitness and lists people with back problems, limited mobility and a low level of fitness as not suitable.
