Komodo National Park fees: what the tour price covers and what you pay on the day
4 min read
The answer first. There is no single rule, because every listing handles the park fee its own way. Some put it in the price, some ask for cash on the day, some want it paid before departure. Before you compare two prices, find the fee line on each booking page. If you want the fee off your mind, the Komodo Dragons and Island Hop with All Fees (€121.16 per person) lists the park entry among its inclusions.
How the listings treat the fee
| Trip | What the booking page says about the park fee | From |
|---|---|---|
| Komodo Dragons and Island Hop with All Fees | Entry fee to Komodo National Park listed among the inclusions | €121.16 |
| Komodo Island Day Tour with Snorkeling | Park entry paid on site in cash | €77.31 |
| Komodo National Park Full-Day Speedboat Tour | A park ticket of IDR 400,000 per person and a “tipping & ranger fee” appear in one list that mixes inclusions and extras; cash is on the packing list | €82.47 |
| 2D1N Komodo and Pink Beach Shared Boat Tour | Komodo Island entrance and snorkelling fees “if option selected” and a ranger fee, in a list that mixes inclusions and extras | €159.73 |
| 3D2N Budget Komodo Liveaboard | Park, snorkelling and wildlife fees not included; must be settled in advance | €280.91 |
The speedboat listing puts the fee in a long list that mixes inclusions and extras, so the text alone does not settle whether it is covered; read its fee lines on the booking page before you book. Two three-day sailing trips quote the fee yet again: the 3-Day Komodo Sailing Tour lists park tickets and a conservation fee for three days with separate rates for Indonesians and foreigners, after items such as insurance and crew tips, and the 3-Day Sailing and Overland Tour with 12 stops prepays fees only for the options that include the park ticket.
Why it matters when you compare
Two tours with a similar headline price can differ by the whole park fee. The island-hop tour with “all fees” in its title has the fee in the price; the day tour that asks for cash on site needs money in your pocket on the day. The budget liveaboard is a clearer case: its page says the fee must be paid in advance because the authorities limit the number of visitors per day, and the permit has to be secured before departure.
What the park itself charges
The entry ticket is set by Government Regulation 36/2024. According to the head of the Komodo National Park office, foreign visitors pay IDR 250,000 per person, the same on weekdays and holidays, and the ticket covers trekking, wildlife watching and snorkelling; diving costs a further IDR 25,000 per person per activity (Antara, 25 October 2024). Floresa reported the same rate in April 2026, adding that the forestry minister was considering an increase for foreign visitors (Floresa, 14 April 2026). The listings quote higher figures, IDR 400,000 on the speedboat page and IDR 650,000 on the budget liveaboard, without breaking them down, so ask your operator what its figure covers and whether the Rinca and Kalong visits carry their own fees.
Two rules are newer than most listings. Since 1 April 2026 the park admits at most 1,000 visitors a day (Antara, 14 April 2026), and park tickets are sold only through the park authority’s SiOra app (detik, October 2025). The Indonesian tourism site still describes a permit from the park office in Labuan Bajo (Indonesia Travel, first-timer’s guide), and some listings, among them the day tour in the table, still ask for cash on site. Ask your operator whether it books your entry in advance. Bring rupiah anyway: Indonesia Travel’s Pink Beach page notes there are no ATMs nearby (Indonesia Travel, Pink Beach).
Our recommendation
If you want a price you can plan around, take the tour that lists the fee among its inclusions, the Komodo Dragons and Island Hop with All Fees. If you prefer the Komodo Island Day Tour with Snorkeling, the most reviewed trip in the table, ask the operator before booking how much the entry costs and whether it buys your ticket through SiOra or expects cash on the day. For the overnight options, see liveaboard and sailing tours; for day trips, Komodo day tours.
